Reading a long book in a few days and then coming back to face reality after after it ends is probably the closest we can experience to a time-traveller who has just returned from a journey that lasted for years back to his time where everything looks like they've just left.

soon im gonna get more books, more classics i've decided, i have a few im interested in getting but i limited the list so i wouldn't be tempted to try n get them all at once and overwhelm myself 😅

fallow -

I finally got some bookshelves for my library room! Gonna get my books and some figurines set up soon ^^ Still gotta get some floating wall shelves up to display some larger things and some special things in the living room but we're on track to getting our house looking beautiful

I'm so happy to get a little comfort area set up for myself it's so important to me to display things

oh thats epic!! having a dedicated library room..thats the life......hope u enjoy hangin out there! =D

my room is basically the equivalent of our house's library room bc i was the only one willing to devote so much wallspace to bookshelves

(and floorspace to one(1) gigantic Thing to sit on, and my entire closet to 34782934729 boxes of books...its been years and we still havent fully moved in fjkdgh)

dang i miss the library now...thats one of the few small-scale things i liked about everything being up and running

Your room sounds like it would be so fun to chill in with a good book :)

And that reminds me that I have to return some dvds to the library now that they're opening back up omg!! The book box has been closed since March so I totally forgot D:

yeah it is!! i did that yesterday with a kitten in my lap rereading an old fave of mine & it was really nice

the aforementioned Thing is basically a giant beanbag but instead of beans it's. well. we don't even know what's inside it, we got it from this friend who was like "please take this it's too big we don't know where to put it" (getting it through doors was A Challenge, its like a giant heavy marshmallow)

it's just this ~8ft amorphous pillow basically??? we call it The Bean bc it's to be Feared (tho i did trap my sister underneath it and she lived lol) and after an amount of time it just gets this dent in the middle from us sitting on it so we have to flip it up against the wall to kinda "reset" it (then it gets flat again, and so on and so forth)

the cats love to sleep on it, it's. very heat-retaining which makes it not an ideal chillspot in the summer but yakno it's amazing the rest of the year so

wait the library is opening?? (the one where you live at least?) it can't be opening entirely right...is it like. going to mail the books and stuff?

We have a little front yard now and I think once restrictions start getting lifted I'd like to build one of those tiny lending library things to put outside for the neighborhood. There are a ton of kids in the area and I have to go through some boxes of books still and I think that would be a wonderful way to spread around some of the books I'd otherwise donate

fallow -

oh that'd be lovely!!

my mom's mentioned wanting to make one of those too but she's always so busy she hasn't really had the chance. nearly 1/5 of my room is books though so we certainly have enough for it fdjlskgh

well now ive read the news and my brain just shut off completely

fallow -

thats fair...the other day my sister was like "yeah in class they gave us an assignment on writing about news articles but the teacher said if we didn't want to dive into that hole she'd post links to not-depressing news articles for us to use"
she's been avoiding it too (as have i) bc just. Everything tm u kno.

anyway, just reminder that you dont have to read all that-

hope ur hangin' in there!
//(hehe this is silly to me because it is a word and also your name and reading it either way is slightly different meaning from the other...it reminds me of how my name is frost and people make jokes all the time about me being on the grass or on rooftops in the chilly morning!)

babushka -

hope puns! i put this name in my desc very recently so im only getting used to all the english puns :)

and yeah, even in less disturbing times a lot of news articles are actually written to be disturbing/bring light to disturbing things. and the evolution never prepared us to be aware about every disturbing thing happening around you!

as for how i feel - news wasn't the only reason my brain shut down. i think that was the first time in my life where my brain literally went "wow, too traumatic. im not processing all of that. im just shutting down" instead of repression, escapism, etc. thats probably awful but also a good protection mechanism. and im better now!

yeahh i read a book a while ago about how fear works and it talked about how peoplebrains decide how likely to happen something is based on how much they've heard of it happening (which is probably why my anxiety thought it was Fun&Fresh to tell me I needed to worry about fantasy-story-type-hazards around the house haha) and the book said the news can really skew the brain's count of what's likely and what's not and that's the reason for the evolution thing you mentioned.

about your brain yeah that makes sense, flight response type deal...I'm glad you're doing better now!!

babushka -

that explains.

fallow -

the book is called 'the science of fear' by daniel gardener if you'd like to give it a read

[warning: it has a photo of a big spider on the front tho, that scared some of my friends when i was carrying it around]
